    Day 1: Arrival & Transfer to La Antigua Guatemala

    Meet & greet at la Aurora International Airport by Birding Expeditions staff and transfer to the colonial city of La Antigua Guatemala.

    Day 2: El Pilar Farm Birds & Butterflies tour

    Early Coffee break then we will board our transport towards San Cristobal El Alto to start our birding and butterflies tour.

    About 9:00 am, we will have a break for breakfast, a visit to orchids collection and landscape enjoyment.

    After breakfast, we continue towards El Pilar Farm to visit a natural paradise where is possible to spot some birds and butterflies, including hummingbirds such as Rufous Sabrewing, Rivoli’s Hummingbird, Green-throated and, Mountain-Gem.

    Also, Azure Crowned hummingbird, Violet hummingbird, Berylline Hummingbird, and White-Eared Hummingbird among others.

    After the visit return to the center of La Antigua Guatemala for Lunch.

    After lunch, you will have time for a cultural experience, discovering the secrets of the colonial jewel and its history.

    Day 3: Tecpan Birding and Nature tour – Continue to Huehuetenango

    Early transfer towards Tecpan area to visit the pine-oak forest reserve that inhabits the beautiful pink- head Warbler and other birds.

    At our arrival we will enjoy a local breakfast then we will be ready to discover the natural world of this destination.

    After our experience at Tecpan, you will continue towards Huehuetenango, starting in 2000, masl approximately and arriving at an altitude of 3600 masl.

    You will enjoy lunch on the route; then we continue to our destinations nearby Todos Santos Reserve with an excellent opportunity for landscape, birds and nature observation.

    Day 4: Todos Santos Reserve – Quetzaltenango

    Early breakfast then we will head to Todos Santos Reserve, the habitat of the endemic Goldman’s Warbler.

    Here we will have the opportunity to discover a unique natural world.

    Todos Santos is on the list of areas with the most significant biological diversity and endemism in the country

    Numerous in danger species of flora and wildlife can be observed like Guatemalan Fir (Abies guatemalensis), Hartweg’s Pine (Pinus hartwegii), Huitum (Juniperus standleyii), Maya Mouse (Peromyscus mayensis) Cuchumatanes Salamander (Dendrotriton chujorum), among others.

    Bird types associated with this spot are Goldman’s Warbler, that will be the first endemic species of Guatemala, Black-capped Siskin, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Broad-tailed Hummingbird, Common Raven and Savannah Sparrow.

    After this visit, we will head toward the city of Quetzaltenango

    Day 5: Fuentes Georginas – Volcan Zunil

    Coffee break and transfer toward the slopes of Volcan Zunil, in the quest of the endemic Horned Guan, Guatemalan Pygmy Owl, Black-throated Jay, Garnet-throated Hummingbird, and Amethyst-throated Hummingbirds among others.

    This destination also offers the opportunity to observe some butterflies, insects, lizards, and bromeliads.

    After the tour, we will head towards Los Tarrales Reserve

    Day 6: Los Tarrales Reserve

    Los Tarrales is situated south-east of Atitlan Volcano and inhabits the localized endemic Azure-rumped Tanager.

    Hhere you can find various kinds of forests because of the altitudinal range between 2297 to 8200 ft. Above sea level.

    This excellent bird watching location inhabits resident species, for example, White-bellied Chachalaca, Long-tailed Manakin, Yellow-naped Parrot, Cinnamon Hummingbird, and Rufous-naped Wren.

    Also, you can find possible to find out species including Tody Motmot, Rufous-breasted Spinetail, Prevost’s Ground-Sparrow, White-eared Ground-Sparrow, White-faced Quail-Dove, Ruddy Quail-Dove, Emerald-chinned Hummingbird, as well as others.

    Day 7: Los Tarrales – Lake Atitlan

    Day 8: Lake Atitlan – Monterrico

    Early morning boat trip towards San Pedro La Laguna the place we get a pickup truck which will bring you into the access of Paquisis volcano.

    Here we are going to start our hike for the search of Horned Guan and various exciting bird species like Prevost’s Ground-sparrow, Amethyst-throated Hummingbird, Slender Sheartail, Rufous Sabrewing  and, Violet Sabrewing.

    Also, Bushy-crested Jay, Olive-sided Towhee, Chesnut-sided Shrike-vireo, Rufous-browed Peppershrike, Mountain Trogon, Bar-winged Oriole and Ocellated Quail among others.

    Meals can supply along the way (boxed breakfast).

    Day 9: Atitlan – Monterrico

    Morning transport to El Rey Tepepul Reserve, this is a birdwatching location situated just fifteen minutes from your lodge.

    Here is possible to find species such as our National Bird, The Resplendent Quetzal, Emerald Toucanets, Azure-rumped Tanager, Elegant Euphonia, Rusty Sparrow, green throated mountain gem hummingbird among others.

    Day 10: Monterrico – Bosque Seco

    After a coffee break, we will take a boat trip a to enjoy a birding morning adventure through the estuaries, mangroves and dry forest.

    Yellow-winged Cacique, Mangrove Vireo, Mangrove Warbler, Rufous-naped Wren, Gartered Trogon, Turquoise-browed Motmot, Boat-billed Heron, Bare-throated Tiger Heron, White-throated Magpie-Jay, Black-crowned Night-Heron, and, Yellow-crowned Night-Heron.

    Also, Sungrebe, Cinnamon Hummingbird, Stripe-headed Sparrow, American Pygmy-Kingfisher, Orange-fronted Parakeet, Pacific Screech-Owl, and Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl among others.

    After a birding and nature tour, we will head towards Guatemala’s Dry Scrub Forest, lunch on route

    Day 11: Dry Scrub Forest – Biotope

    After the early coffee break, we will head towards the reserve for the conservation of the Heloderma, located in the municipality of Cabañas, in the department of Zacapa.

    Here you can find 90 sorts of daytime butterflies, and 22 sorts of grain moths, 100 species of birds, ten types of amphibians including the endemic species of the Salamander (Oedipina motaguae) and the creek frog constitute (Claugastor inachus).

    Within the 42 sorts of Reptiles documented standing out the Scorpion lizard (Heloderma charlesbogerti), the iguana Shero (Ctenosaura palearis).

    Also, seven sorts of bats, 160 arthropods including the endemic scorpions (Centruroides fallasisimus and Diplocentrus motagua), the striped tiger-like tarantula met (Davus sp.).

    After the expedition to the Heloderma reserve, we will continue towards the Biological corridor of The Resplendent Quetzal.

    Day 12: Biotope – Guatemala airport – Flores – Tikal

    Early birding tour around the biotope and Los Ranchitos del Quetzal in the quest of the national bird the Resplendent Quetzal, and other bird species as well orchids and local flora.

    Breakfast on site then we return to the lodge for check out and transfer to La Aurora International Airport to catch a short flight to Mundo Maya international airport in the Peten area.

    At our arrival, we will meet Birding Expeditions’ team that will transfer directly to Tikal national park

    Day 13: Tikal National Park

    Early birding and nature tour, here we have an excellent opportunity to discover the birds that inhabit Tikal as well as Howler & Spider monkeys, butterflies, and fantastic insects.

    Breakfast at the lodge, then we continue our wildlife expedition in and around the archaeological site with a Maya history explanation and opportunity to climb some temples that are over the tropical rainforest.

    Return for lunch at the restaurant area then we will enjoy a sunset tour with a high opportunity for wildlife observation after sunset.

    Return to the lodge for dinner

    Day 14: Tikal – Las Guacamayas Station

    Early wildlife and nature tour inside the park, visiting secluded areas where is possible to discover the natural side of Tikal, photography opportunities are fantastic here.

    After breakfast, we will head to Las Guacamayas station, located inside of the most extensive wetlands in Central America, on the banks of San Pedro River in the heart of the Mayan Biosphere.

    During the transfer, we will have breaks for wildlife observation.

    Arriving at Paso Caballos village, we will get a boat ride for about 45 minutes, wildlife observation on the route.

    Arriving at the station, we will have a check-in time; then we will have a short hike ending at Las Guacamayas lookout with fantastic views to enjoy the sunset.

    Return to the lodge for short resting; then we will have a boat ride in the quest of nocturnal creatures.

    This is a fantastic tour in the heart of the Mayan Biosphere, after the trip, we return for dinner and resting.

    Day 15: Las Guacamayas Station

    Early hike around the lodge then time for breakfast.

    After breakfast, we will board our boat that will take us to the entrance of El Peru trail, where we will start a hike under the rainforest to enjoy this fantastic natural paradise with a significant possibility of wildlife observation.

    After the hike, we return to the river bank to get a boat ride around the San Pedro River and Sacluc stream for a wildlife and nature observation

    Return to the lodge for lunch, rest and continue with a rainforest exploration.

    Dinner and lodging at las Guacamayas Station

    Day 16: Las Guacamayas Station – Flores – Guatemala city

    Earley breakfast and check out, we will take a boat and land transportation to Flores Island for lunch the transfer to Mundo Maya international airport to take a flight back to Guatemala City
