This is a Birding expedition designed to discover the endemics of Yucatan and other specialties, visiting nature reserves, archaeological sites and the island of Cozumel.
Meet & greet at Cancun international airport and transfer to Ría Lagartos (3 – 3.5 hours)
If time permits, we start today exploring the reserve.
Early morning, we will take a boat ride to explore the estuary looking for endemics. Known as one of the premier destinations for birdwatching in North America the Ría Lagartos Biosphere Reserve contains vast mangroves which allow for excellent spotting of water birds.
Early birding to find some missing birds and to get ready to drive to Felipe Carrillo Puerto town, on the way will do several stops.
Sian Ka´an Reserve is a very big biosphere; we will explore the famous edge of the Reserve Vigia Chico road.
Today after a morning exploring Vigia Chico Road, we go ahead to Bacalar Lagoon area. This is a birding road that inhabits several bird species providing an excellent an effortless birding opportunity.
Early morning drive to Tres Garantias road, very different habitat. This region characterizes itself for the coexistence of vegetation of medium (low) sub-evergreen jungle with secondary vegetation and medium (low) sub-deciduous jungle, at an altitude of 17 meters above sea level.
Morning drive to Playa del Carmen, with a birding stop in Muyil Reserve.
This morning we will take the ferry to Cozumel Island. We will end our trip on the Island of Cozumel, known for its abundance in endemic species. This fantastic birding destination offers the chance to spot both resident species and, at the right time of year, migratory birds that use this part of Mexico as their seasonal destination
Afternoon return to Playa del Carmen
Breakfast and transfer to Cancun airport in time to catch your international flight back home (1 hour)
