The biological Station is a paradise for lovers of nature; our station base is located in the Laguna del Tigre National Park, at the banks of San Pedro River and near the Sacluc stream.

With an abundant wildlife such as spider monkeys and howler monkeys (saraguate), occasionally tapirs, crocodiles, and a great variety of birds, among those we can mention the scarlet macaw, toucans, blue herons, parakeets, and many more…

DESCRIPTION:

Day 1:

5:00 am.
Leave Flores for a trip of approximately 3 hrs.
Birding on route
Arrival to the community of Paso Caballos, we will board a boat that will carry us through the San Pedro River to the EBG (aprox.20 minutes).
Birding on route

You will be received by the EBG staff and they will give an introduction on the activities of the station, solid waste management, research programs, conservation and social projection. (Approx. 1 hour).

Lunch

Break

2:00 the research program of the butterflies of the EBG starts with duration of 2 hrs approximately.

4:00 bird monitoring of the scientist`s project of the EBG, ending at Las Guacamayas lookout.

Nighttime aquatic excursion:
Explores the stream Sacluc, our experienced guide accompanies us for the nighttime aquatic tour. With the support of a flashlight, our guide illuminates the nighttime creatures that live here, including the crocodile petenero (Crocodylus moreletii), bats, birds and more.

Day 2:

5:00 am. Time for a coffee (breakfast on route)

We will board our boat for a birding tour through the archaeological site El Peru, where we will visit the most important nesting area of the scarlet macaw (Ara Macaw) in Guatemala.

Note:
Due to the periods of nesting of the Scarlet macaw it is possible to guarantee its observation during the months from January to June.

From July to December the second day of the tour we will do it in the savannahs and low forest of the biological station.
